Our investment in the Prince’s Trust and Salford Royal Foundation Trust’s “Get Into Hospital” course is at midpoint. Having worked with the Prince’s Trust Volunteers for over a decade, CIF Director, Sara Lawton, is thrilled to be able to support both the PTV and young people who access their services.
“Cherie… The Story So Far”.
Cherie had recently completed another course the Prince’s Trust run called the Prince’s Trust ‘Team’ programme which is a 12-week personal development course. While on the programme Cherie completed a 2-week work placement as a Porter at Salford Royal and said she loved her time there. She wanted to keep the momentum going and to gain more insight into working at the NHS. It felt a natural progression to join the “Get into Hospital” course as Cherie’s longer term plan is to train as a nurse next year. She felt any experience at the hospital would help her to understand what working there is like.
Cherie’s placement is on Front of House reception and she has been very busy sorting out room bookings and assisting with staff enquiries. Although it can be stressful, she’s enjoying the pace. Her next challenge is to answer the phone – she’s been making lots of calls to relevant departments within the hospital but hasn’t felt able to answer any yet. She does feel that she has become more approachable and is gradually feeling increased confidence in working with people of different ages and backgrounds. She feels that the placement has really helped her to grow as a person. The course has also really helped her with her time management.
“Cherie was very personable and pleasant during the induction day and I can see why she would be both an excellent front of house team member and an excellent nurse. The 12 week personal development course is tough-going and the “Get into Course” will provide Cherie with the next steps she needs to progress into a nursing career”.
