September 2017 saw the re-launch of NBGC after a major £285K refurbishment by Manchester City Mayor Andy Burnham who came back to his youth stomping ground to celebrate the re-opening.

The club opened in 1961 and was in need of a total re-furbishment to provide modern facilities for local young people. In addition to up-grading the gym and general club room providing the usual coffee bar / area for table tennis / pool etc the refurbishment included Music Room / Radio Club / Arts Room / Game Console Room and a state of the art Cinema Room which will double as a lecture room to deliver training.

The project would not have been possible without the backing of local charity Hamilton Davies Trust and partners. HDT teamed up with Denise Bernard of Momentum Expedite who was initially funded by CIF (Construction Impact Framework; Liverpool). Sara Lawton the Director of CIF seed funded the project after seeing its potential and the crucial role NBGC plays within the community.

“CIF seed funding Denise Bernard of Momentum Expedite was invaluable as her expertise, wealth of knowledge, experience and above all enthusiasm to the project enabled NBGC to gain access to multi-lines of funding, which is an on-going task.
NBGC is now well on it’s way to doubling membership and making a significant impact supporting the youth work in one of the 10% of the UK’s deprived areas”.
